Thought for the Day

ORGANIZATION

Conflict Management Support was formed in 1990 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit Corporation dedicated to promoting nonviolent strategies for managing conflict.

Current Organization

The Board of Directors is responsible for setting the organization's priorities and general objectives for the year.

There are no paid officers or staff members. All effort to date has been provided on a volunteer basis. Funding from Membership fees, Gifts, and Contributions has been applied to books, hardware and software upgrades.

Board Members, Officers, Staff, and Volunteers are expected to review the "CMS Associate Handbook" and concur with its philosophy before committing to the organization.

A Technical Advisory Group is used to review materials and provide technical assistance in the fields of Conflict Management and Education

2002 Organizational Transformation

The year 2002 was an exciting year for CMS. We have seen a renewed emphasis in the CMS mission and several new projects are being undertaken including a new web site, and the design and development of new educational materials for Elementary School age youth that are web based.

Also to enhance our ability to accomplish our Mission, we are making a transition to a "virtual" organizational structure, that retains the original nonprofit model of a Board of Directors, Staff, and Volunteers, but applies today's communication technology to remove geophysical / co-location constraints.

2005 Organizational Growth

In 2005 we look forward to implementing a number of great ideas developed by the Board of Directors.

We anticipate that after our new Web Site is officially "brought online" around mid year, we will be able to interest a number of "Virtual Volunteers" in helping us with our Mission.

As a result, we are accepting applications (still on a volunteer basis) for all facets of the organization - see Volunteer Opportunities.

For more details on how you can help, either as a part of the co-located organization or as a member of the "virtual" organization, please see the Volunteers section.

2011 Organization - Revisited

In 2011 a change in Board membership has resulted in a re-examination of the organization's goals and objectives. Considering today's awareness of the effect of 7 billion people, who are generally in conflict with the planet's limited resources as well as other living species, it seems appropriate to broaden our perspective of conflict management to include the following levels:

intrapersonal conflict
interpersonal conflict
intrafamily conflict
interfamily conflict
intragroup conflict
intergroup conflict
intranational conflict
international conflict
intraglobal conflict

This suggests that the organization continue to utilize the advances in social networking technology to involve as many people as possible (e.g use of Facebook, Twitter, Wiki sites, interactive web sites, virtual editors, etc. ).
