ORGANIZATION
Conflict Management Support was formed in 1990 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit Corporation dedicated to promoting nonviolent strategies for managing conflict.
Our Organization is based on a traditional non-profit model as described below and we have operated with this model for the past 15 years. As you will see, this year we are adding a "virtual" dimension to our organization to enhance our capability and outreach.
Current Organization
The Board of Directors is responsible for setting the organizations priorities and general objectives for the year.
There are no paid staff. All effort to date has been provided on a volunteer basis. Funding from Membership fees have been applied to books, hardware and software upgrades. Board Members, Staff, and Volunteers are expected to review the "CMS Associate Handbook" and concur with its philosophy before committing to the organization.
A Technical Advisory Group is used to review materials and provide technical assistance in the fields of Conflict Management and Education
During the 15 year history of CMS, there have been a number of projects as described below:
[to be described later]
2002
Organizational Transformation
The year 2002 was an exciting year for CMS. We have seen a renewed
emphasis in the CMS mission and several new projects are being undertaken including
a new web site, and the design and development of new educational materials
for Elementary School age youth that are web based.
Also to enhance our ability to accomplish our Mission,
we are making a transition to a "virtual" organizational structure,
that retains the original nonprofit model of a Board of Directors, Staff,
and
Volunteers, but applies today's communication technology to remove geophysical
/ co-location constraints.
2005 Organizational Growth
In 2005 we look forward to imlpementing a number of great ideas developed by the Board of Directors.
We anticipate that after our new Web Site is officially "brought online" around mid year, we will be able to interest a number of "Virtual Volunteers" in helping us with our Mission.
As a result, we are accepting applications (still on a volunteer basis) for all facets of the organization - see Volunteer Opportunities.
For more details on how you can help, either as a part of the co-located organization or as a member of the "virtual" organization, please see the Volunteers section.
